Hi Phil, I collect many things. One of my more "intense" subjects is antique radio. This is a picture of one of my MANY radios - the Atwater Kent Model 5. It was sold in 1923 and is one of the earliest radios made. My example of this very rare radio is equipped with "rainbow" tubes. These are very early extremely rare tubes with a rainbow like color to the glass and look similar to carnival glass.

The combination of the radio with these tubes makes a very rare and extremely attractive presentation. This model 5 radio was made by Atwater Kent for a very short period of time before being replaced by another model. These radios require batteries and a very large antenna.

It is a favorite because it is a representation of VERY early radio from the very foundation of radio broadcasting. It is a piece of American History of great importance - just think how radio changed the world! Thanks - AL P. - Staten Island NY

My Grandson when 3 to 5 years old seemed to distort words as he heard them such as when he and I got back from a walk in the woods picking wild berries , he announced to my wife and Daughter " Look at all these knuckle (huckle)berries we picked !!! Also , after a walk in our orchard, he showed them a bowl of plumes (plums) !!............Randy

10. A vintage recipe request from a reader
As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
Hello, Years ago I had a Rumptoff in my kitchen for years. I got the start from a friend and it was already bubbling really well. When I moved I could not take it with me. I had to stir it daily and each week added

1 cup pineapple & 1 cup sugar
1 cup peaches & 1 cup sugar
1 cup cherries & 1 cup sugar

I have had 5 recipes of how to do the start and they never work it does not ever bubble and come to life it just rots. I was told to put in the pineapple sugar and some yeast in a jar and it will kick in it's self but it never does.

Does anyone on your list know how to get it started to bubble and come to life? I am very frustrated. Seeing the old time recipes I thought someone out there may know. Thanks for any help. Libby
If you can help this reader with this recipe, please forward it to recipes@tias.com . If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might just publish it here.
