Every week we post stories and comments from our readers. Send your story to phil@Bignews.biz and I'll publish it in an upcoming newsletter. Did you know that you don't have to have a facebook account to use the links to see the various photos that we mention below? Just copy and paste the link into your browser. However, if you do have a facebook account please "Like" us!

Also, remember that you can check out our facebook page for some interesting updates. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/TIASAntiques If you have photos of items you would like to share you can post them there as well.

For next week's issue: Here's the topic: During the Holidays, every household seems to have different vintage items that come out of storage. This might be a Turkey platter, Silverware, Tree ornaments, etc. Tell us about your favorite. Where did it come from and why is it so special? Let's keep the newsletter interesting and thought provoking. Send your story to Phil@Bignews.biz

"Whenever my husband and I travel, we stop at antique shops and always come home with lots of goodies. Generally, I do not ask for a lower price unless it is a big ticket item or I know the price is unreasonable. I collect sewing related items and vintage sewing machines, treadles, hand cranks and electric. Many vendors and antique dealers put way too high a price on them. So I just walk away. That is unfortunate, as I want to support the industry. As a result, most of my machines come from other sources. I am not one to expect to pay $25 for a treadle. I have paid $65 – $500.

As an vintage enthusiast, sometimes I try to educate them. Normally, there is no interest, which is sad. Maria -Smoky Mountains of Tennessee"

If you do, tell us about it and if you have any photos, we'd love to see them! Send us an email to Phil@BigNews.biz so we can share your story with the rest of our readers.

Thanks to those of you who have been responding! We really enjoy, and appreciate, the feedback!

Here are two requests to identify some items, can you help them out?

Item #1: I am hoping you can assist in identifying the goblet below as I am looking to purchase more. The crystal goblet was purchased in Canada in 1964 at a store called Birks. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. See the photo on our Facebook page here: http://on.fb.me/19KJ74C

Items #2: I'm wondering if you match patterns. My parents would like to buy more of this pattern to replace broken pieces. The paper is standard 8.5x11 to show size. Dave S.. See the photo on our Facebook page here: http://on.fb.me/1lJ1MOb

Do you have an item in your collection that you need help identifying or just would like to share with our readers? Drop us an email with a photo attached, including all dimensions of the item and any other pertinent information, and we'll include it in our newsletter and on our Facebook page. Send them to me at phil@Bignews.biz

We have even more interesting items that need to be identified. They will be posted in our next newsletter and on facebook within the upcoming weeks.

"I can really relate to the story about the person who was getting laughed at because they would not be able to find things in plain sight. In my case I have an 89 year old Mother for who I bought a special cell phone, just so she can reach me at any given moment if she has a problem. One day I was leaving the house when I thought I better make sure I have my phone with me. After realizing the phone was not in my pocket where it should be, I began searching for the phone around the house. After a couple frustrating minutes worrying if I had dropped the cell phone some where out side I realized that the entire time I had been looking for the cell phone I had been talking to some one on the phone which was held by my right hand next to my ear. I just had a good laugh about it with my Mom and went to do my errands. I now refer to it as my Senior moment! Take care! Bob in Gurnee, Il."

9. A Vintage Recipe
Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http://www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.

Our most recent request, from Sue V. asked: ""Hi Phil, I'm looking for a recipe for a cookie that my mother used to make. They were cookies that were in the shape of a ball, and she would fill them with different things like raspberry or chocolate and then they were rolled in powdered sugar. Does that sound familiar to anyone? Thanks, Sue V."

This sounds very similar to Betty Crocker recipe for Bon Bon cookies. Used several different fillings and were frosted. Certainly can roll in powder sugar instead of frosting. Must be done while hot from the oven. Allow to cool and roll in powder sugar a second time.

1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
24 maraschino cherries
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon butter, melted
2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
Additional confectioners' sugar

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add milk and vanilla. Combine the flour and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
Divide dough into 24 portions; shape each portion around a cherry, forming a ball. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 18-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
For glaze, combine the sugar, butter and cherry juice until smooth. Drizzle over cookies. Dust with confectioners' sugar. Yield: 2 dozen.
10. A vintage recipe request from a reader:

"I'm looking for a nice recipe for thick gingerbread, not the thin cookie dough version, but a cake like version. Can anyone help me out? Daphne."

If you can help this reader with this recipe, please forward it to phil@bignews.biz .

As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
If you have a vintage recipe request send it to phil@bignews.biz and we might just publish it here.
