Diane L. sent us an interesting, thought-provoking email about her antiques.

"I have a good collection of a variety of antiques that have come to me in a
number of different ways. Both my mother and my mother-in-law had family
treasures passed down for generations and I have some of those very
precious collectibles along with their stories. Other things I've found
here and there at estate sales and antique shops that hold special memories
for me. My question is this. I have two sons. One son and his wife have
plenty of room for some of these lovely items but have zero interest in
antiques. The other son and his wife have more of a liking for these
things but have zero room! Who is going to take care of these things,
especially the most valued family heirlooms, when I'm no longer on this
earth! I feel such a responsibility to preserve these family items."

What do you think? Are you in a similar situation?

WE NEED YOUR STORY ABOUT COLLECTING. DO YOU HAVE AN INTERESTING STORY TO TELL? SEND IT TO newsletter@tias.com.

If you have a story you'd like to share, tell us about it and if you have any photos, we'd love to see them! Send us an email to newsletter@tias.com so we can share your story with the rest of our readers.

Thanks to those of you who have been responding! We really enjoy, and appreciate, the feedback!

7. A Vintage Recipe

Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http://www.tias.com/newsletter/topics/A%20Vintage%20Recipe.html Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.

Last week Marilin G. sent in an old recipe she found for "Pie Plant Wine". Apparently we're the only ones on the planet who didn't know what a "pie plant" was (rhubarb!). Thank you to ALL the readers who enlightened us! The response was truly amazing!

A couple of contributors mentioned remembering "dandelion" wine, where a balloon was put on top of the bottle, which would inflate while fermenting, but then deflate when it was ready to drink! Janice K. would like a recipe for dandelion wine. Her Grandpa passed away before she thought to ask him for his recipe.
--

*Note - the recipes are submitted by fellow Collectors Newsletter readers and are not checked for accuracy or tested by the TIAS staff. Keep in mind that many of these recipes were created at a time when there were no worries about such things as raw eggs, for example - so modern kitchen safety should prevail.
--------------------

8. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.

In addition to the request for a recipe for dandelion wine above, we have two other requests this week.

"I'm looking for an old recipe for soft molasses cookies? These are my
brother's favorite cookies & were made for him as a child, in the 50's, by
an old woman in Grindstone City, MI. They were a soft, cake-like cookie &
so tasty! All the recipes I find now seem to be a crisp cookie. Hoping
someone has this recipe .
Thank you,
Sherryn F"

--
"I was wondering if someone has a fool-proof recipe of Nockerl, an Austrian dish. My granma used to make them and then I tried them in Vienna. Love them! By the way a pie plant is a garden rhubarb.I hope somebody can help me.Patricia C., Buenos Aires, Argentina"

If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might just publish it here.
