Ethel L sent in her story, about a great find: "Recently I was at a local flea market when I found a beautiful Wathams Ladies Watch. It still had the little plastic covers on the front and back. I know that the Watham Watch Co. went out of business in 1957. This watch was in a plastic bag and the price was $1.50. The lady said she didn't know if it worked but I took a chance since it looked in new condition. Took it home put a battery in and it runs perfectly. The best buy I ever made at a flea market. I gave the lady $2.00 and since she didn't have change she gave me a dollar back. What a find."

Theresa B. sent us these pictures and wants to know if anyone can help her with more info and a value of possible:
"I have a antique tool that I do believe is a drill press of some sorts and would like to know its value. ...I don't have much history on this but I know that it has L.F.&C. New Britain, Conn. USA. engraved on it and that it is a Vintage hand drill press. "

8. A Vintage Recipe

Be sure to check out our vintage recipe archive online at: http://bit.ly/1vDXn6h. Over 1200 wonderful vintage recipes are listed.

Two weeks ago, Darlene F requested a jello recipe called Avocado Jello. We received six recipes and posted them last week. Darlene wanted to thank all those who contributed:
"Please thank all the readers who provided me (as well as anyone interested in) Avocado Jello Recipes. I'm sure I'll find the right one in this group. And in the meantime, I'll have fun experimenting with these recipes with my Mom (an Oregon transplant from California). So again, many thanks.Darlene F., Oregon"
---
Last week Grace S of Salt Lake City, UT requested a vintage recipe for a three layered angel food cake that had a whipped coffee flavored icing. We had one response from WFH from Denham Springs, LA:

"Could not find a cake with the coffee icing, but did find this recipe for coffee icing. Hope it helps-found it in the 1932 Rumford Complete Cookbook (always collecting old books)1/2 cup strong clear coffee; 2 cups granulated sugar; 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Cook the coffee and sugar together until (probably medium heat)a little dropped in cold water forms a soft ball. Cool, and add the vanilla extract and beat until stiff enough to spread. Yum"

*Note - the recipes are submitted by fellow Collectors Newsletter readers and are not checked for accuracy or tested by the TIAS staff. Keep in mind that many of these recipes were created at a time when there were no worries about such things as raw eggs, for example - so modern kitchen safety should prevail.
--------------------

9. As with collectibles, people also have very strong feelings about foods from their past. Sometimes these special recipes get lost. This section is to help people who are looking for lost recipes from their past. If you submit a request, please include the geographical region where you tasted the recipe.
--

If you have a vintage recipe request send it to recipes@tias.com and we might just publish it here.
