Antique Tiles

Manufacturer: Zanesville Majolica Company
This fabulous round stove tile measures 4" in diameter. The design is molded in very high relief, and shows a portrait of a heavily bearded man. He is wearing a feathered hat and the ruffles on his collar are showing. I believe this was probably made by the Zanesville Majolica Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, 1882 - 1884. See bottom right photo in "American Art Tile" by Norman Karlson for the same interior design. Done in rich brown majolica glazes, with mottled edges, this is in outstanding condition.
