The patent for this unique type of glass listed it as "blister or bubble" glass. It was Consolidated's best selling line of glass at the time.

It comes in clear colors of Crystal, Emerald Green, and Spanish Rose pink. The "soft" colors are produced by adding a transparent color wash to the glass. David Salazar got his start with the Zephyr Studios before working at Lundberg Glass Studios in the early 1970s and went out on his own around 1983. He is particularly well known for his Moon & Star pattern as well as his paperweights and marbles. This example is signed and dated 8-13 Salazar.

This toothpick holder stands 2 5/8 inches tall and is 1 15/16 inches across the top rim. The base glass is cobalt but it has been sprayed with mineral salts in the tradition of Art Nouveau Tiffany or Steuben glass. The resulting surface has overtones of purple, blue, rose and gold.

The design harkens back to the Art Nouveau period as it features five blossoms and vines. The blossoms are done in a purple glass with white highlights. The vines move diagonally across the surface giving this glass great movement. It is in excellent condition. A great example of great glass by a great contemporary glass artist.

Annemarie Davidson (1920-2012) learned her enameling craft first from the great Doris Hall (1907-2001) in Cambridge, MA in 1957. In California she continued her studies with Curtis Tann. Her combination of geometric and organic form in her designs culminated in her most celebrated abstract designs, her Jewel line which features pieces of glass used to create free-form organic shapes which she calls Jewels. She also uses a sgraffito technique, incising straight lines from the center of her plate with the sharp point of a dart.

This 6 inch wide octagonal low dish or bowl, most likely from 1960-1962 time, is unusual for the fact that all the jewels are the same color, pink. Each jewel has lines laid over it, creating a fascinating pattern. This plate features a central motif of three large pink jewels surrounded by a three groups of three smaller pink jewels each.

The back of the plate is signed with her charcteristic AD interwined intiails in a very early hand-drawn version which features a curving D, not the later very rectangular D. As well, there is the standard gold paper label Davidson used. Every piece was handcrafted by her alone, from start to finish. Excellent condition.

The work of Annemarie Davidson was included in the seminal exhibit titled Painting with Fire which opened in Jan 2007 at the Long Beach Museum of Art. She was one of 30 enamelists included with a one page entry on her life and work. Her page is page 266 of the catalogue.  This is a 15th Anniversary Tonner and Effanbee Fall and Holiday Doll Catalog. Alrun Guest (1942-2012) came to Haeger Potteries in 1969 from Berlin Germany and worked there until at least 2010. I consider her in the ranks of Eva Zeisel, an incredibly talented designer and ceramic engineer.

This Royal Haeger Orange Peel #4170X vase stands 13 inches high. It is one of the larger pieces in the line.

Part of the 1976-1977 line offered by the Haeger Pottery Co, the full line can be seen on p. 170 of the David Dilley book. Condition is excellent -- no chips, cracks, nicks, flakes, stains or other damage / problems.

There is a paper label on the bottom of the vase from the Boylan-Pearce store of Raleigh, North Carolina. I believe that the original felt on bottom with impressed Haeger mark was removed by the store for them to place their store label on the base. The vase is in excellent condition

Add it to your Royal Haeger or Mid-century pottery collection today. This plate is highly unusual as it does not feature the radiating lines of many of her plates. Instead there is a speckled background of pink and white.

This 5 3/4 inch plate, most likely from the 1961-1962 time period, is unusual for its color and type of jewels used. This plate features 9 oblong clear jewels around a larger rectangular jewel with rounded corners. The shape of the plate mirrors the central jewel with its rounded corners. It is very unusual to have a plain background. The use of clear glass for the jewels is highly unusual.

What is interesting about this particular plate is the geometric placement of the jewels.

The back of the plate is signed with her charcteristic AD interwined initials. Due to the very square corners of the letter D, I feel this plate is from the 1961-1964 time period.

2012-2013 Precious Moments Inc. 12 inch Christmas Blessings to You Tree-Top angel, No. 4696 is a pale blonde angel with a bun encircled by a red and gold braid corona, painted green teardrop-shaped eyes, red bead earrings, and a smiling face. This is a set of four #1639 Medium mugs. Each one stands 4 3/4 inches high. There is one in each of the following glazes: Mountain Blue, Vermont Green, White, and Tawny Brown. The shape was designed by Japanese designer Yusuke Aida while employed by David Gil at Bennington Potters. This is part of the Classic Line which is shown in a 1966-67 catalogue in the Cunningham book and in a 1968 brochure on the website Modish.net.

One easy way to identify this line is by the handle. If the shape number is between 1601-1683 and it has this loop handle, it is an Aida design.

This line came in the following colors: Mountain Blue, White, Vermont Green, Rust, Tawny Brown. They are all in excellent condition.

In their 1964 catalogue, Gil described their creations as "Art Objects in the Practical Realm" - Museum Honored, Hand-crafted, Modestly Priced,"

These objects surely show clearly both his genius and his intent. Add it to your Mid-century American Studio Pottery collection today.  Here is a whimsical modern stoneware piece from the late David Gil at Bennington Potters in Vermont. started by David Gil in 1948. It is from the 1959-1960 period when Gil included both the words Design Cooperative and Bennington Vermont.

This square 8 inch diameter trivet / plaque was advertised in the 1964 catalogue as 1535, a trivet which could also be hung on the wall as a plaque as it had a built-in wire on the back. This piece is shown in the 1964 catalogue as and is titled there Eggs. Its original 1964 price was $3.00. I recently learned that the six 8 inch square flat tiles were all designed by Gloria Gil, David's first wife with whom he started the company in 1948.

It features 6 eggs in various stages. Done in an abstract stylized manner, the eggs are molded in relief and the incised areas are glazed in a very dark green and black.

The back of the trivet/plaque has a wire hanger which was embedded in the pottery. It retains all four original rubber feet which protects the flat surface upon which one sets it. It is signed 1535 and has the spark mark on the forearm inside a rectangle made up of COOPERATIVE DESIGN and BENNINGTON POTTERS VERMONT. It is in excellent vintage condition.

Bennington Potters is among the few American studio potteries that turned into production potteries in the midcentury. It evolved into a co-operative of different art potters.

After 1960, they made their bread and butter by making gorgeous modern styled dinnerware that was distributed throughout the US and sold in fine department stores.  Here is some information I found online by the Talbot Hamilton Group (http://www.corellecorner.com/home.html)

about Centura: Available from late 1962 to 1977, Centura Tableware offered outstanding break resistance combined with the appearance of quality porcelain. It carried a three year warranty against chips, cracks, breaks and crazing, a promise that no other dinnerware brand could make. Centura's innovative glazed glass-ceramic formula is quite different from Corning Ware's composition. Corning Ware cookware has extraordinary resistance to heat shock, but it is not immune to breakage from impacts. Centura's heat-resistance is comparable to that of Pyrex; it may be used in the oven, but not on the stovetop.

Centura cannot be used in the microwave, and although that was not important when it was developed, by the mid 1970s this limitation would make Centura seem impractical. When Corelle combined the benefits of good break-resistance, lighter weight and lower cost, plus microwave capabilities, its popularity eclipsed that of Centura as well as every other brand of everyday dinnerware.

Centura Tableware's discontinuance was announced July 1977, following the launch of Corelle's Expressions Livingware line that spring.

This particular pattern is called Summerhill. It debuted in 1970. It is a vivid yellow & orange floral, also designed by Cynthia Gerow. This pattern was discontinued in 1976 0r 1977. This second version of the line had the floral pattern on the side of the bowls. This coupe shape as it is known was all the rage in the 1950s-1970s.

Each bowl is marked on the bottom: Centura by Corning, Corning, NY USA. Baking only. No Microwave.

So, whip up some bread pudding or a crumble and serve a tasty retro midcentury treat. Price is for the set. They are all in excellent vintage condition.

This particular glaze came in three color variations: Lime Decorated, Orange Decorated, and Blue Decorated. Created by the brilliant Alrun Osterberg Guest, this is an up-and-coming line. It was produced only in 1971-1972. Alrun Guest (1942-2012) came to Haeger Potteries in 1969 from Berlin Germany. I consider her in the ranks of Eva Zeisel, an incredibly talented designer and ceramic engineer.

The shape is a standard Royal Haeger shape. It is the #4143 shape which stands 9 inches tall. Its original price was $6.00 as can be seen on page 151 of the David Dilley Haeger book where this line can be seen in a 1971 Haeger catalog.

This Notre Dame Fighting Irish 16 ounces beer or bar glass stands 6 inches tall. On one side, one sees the blue ND symbol over the words Notre Dame in gold. On the other side in green is the Fighting Irish man and the words in blue Fightin' Irish. On the side near the bottom of the glass it reads OFFICIALLY LICENSED PRODUCT.

The glass is in great vintage condition. I am not sure if it is from the past 15 years or older than that. I do know that Notre Dame alumni love their school! So, if you are an alumnus of Notre Dame or know someone who is, this is a great little gift or stocking stuffer.

Add it to your collegiate barware collection today. Open up a bottle and pour.  This milk glass body line of glassware often carries a label identifying it as Mar-Crest. Marcrest is actually a name brand not the name of the manufacturer. It is a Product line created by a retail chain called Marshall-Burns, a division of Technicolor, operated out of Chicago. The line contained both stoneware, dinnerware, and glassware. The items were made by many different companies both all carried the Mar-Crest name.

This particular pattern of an abstract space age design done in turquoise and gray is referred to as "Blue Heaven". The glass itself was made by Anchor Hocking under its Fire-King line though the cereal bowls are not marked Fire-King.

This great retro vintage fluted top custard cup stands 1 7/8 inches tall. It is 3 1/4 inches across at the top. What a great addition to your Eames era or Mid-century home!

Helen Kish designed this doll. Neela, has dark coloring, brunette hair drawn back in a very long braid with a gardenia flower, painted brown eyes, and golden earrings. She is wearing an elaborate long silk orange sari with silver accents, a golden necklace, and other silver and gold jewelry including arm and ankle bracelets. The preowned set comes mint and sealed inside its original heavy cardboard box that opens like a book to reveal the doll on one side and the book on the other. The doll has her hang tag. This doll, as others in this collection did not come with undergarments as she was intended for display. She represents a girl in India in the 1930s when it struggled for freedom after over 200 years of British rule. She is wearing a wedding costume for her sister's wedding when Neela was 12 years old and recognized as a woman. The box of this old stock has minor dings on the edge, but has never been opened. Couroc of Monterey History: Couroc was formed in 1948 by the husband and wife team of Guthrie Sayle Courvoisier (? - 1969) and Moira Wallace (~1910-1979) . Wallace was a gifted artist, whose early work included mosaic designs built from inlaid metal and plastic materials. Guthrie developed the technology further, and began Couroc company, which produced heavy, durable plastic trays with inlaid designs.

Guthrie Courvoisier had learned about plastic during World War II, when he was a contractor who manufactured certain plastic parts for military aircraft. (Plastics were essential to the war effort, for their rather unique qualities.) Like nearly all wartime plastics, Courvoisier's were probably jet-black, unlike the multicolored bakelite of decades prior.

In the mid-1950's the company's sales picked up, and it already had a few different designs in its product line. Sales seem to have been mostly in the California area at this time.

The company made a special effort to hire local artists for their design work. As the company slowly grew, it created numerous designs, and began expanding its product line beyond merely trays, so that customers could buy matched sets of trays, glasses, ice buckets, and even napkins. In the 1970's Couroc exploded in popularity, selling well in stores across the nation.

By the mid-1980’s, Couroc's popularity had dropped, and the company was shifting from producing items for the general public, to making promotional items (for sales to corporations or organizations commemorating special events.) In the 1990's, it turned almost exclusively to promotional items.

This Couroc center handled tidbit tray is in the famous Roadrunner pattern. It features three of the cool birds running around the center of the tray. On the back is the original gold foil paper label which reads: Couroc serving pieces are cherished gifts because of their variety and beauty of design. Hand inlaid by master craftsmen, shells, coins, woods, and metals are fused into satin black phenolic. They are impervious to alcohol or boiling water. Wash with mild soap and water.

There is also an in-relief molded signature in the piece itself. There are four very cool feet so that the piece sits absolutely flat on the table. The handle is brass plated. The piece is in excellent vintage condition.

Add it to your Eames era mid-century decor today. Give your place some Mad Men flair.  This milk glass body line of glassware carries a label identifying it as Mar-Crest. Marcrest is actually a name brand not the name of the manufacturer. It is a Product line created by a retail chain called Marshall-Burns, a division of Technicolor, operated out of Chicago. This great retro vintage coffee mug stands 3 3/4 inches tall. It is 3 1/4 inches across at the top. What a great addition to your Eames era or Mid-century home!  This great example of the Art Deco sensibilities of the Noritake mold makers and decorators is amazing. Although the practical utilitarian purpose for this dish is as a lemon slice server for tea, the design vaults it into a totally different category as an art object.

Measuring 7 inches long x 6 1/4 inches wide, this could hold a lot of lemon slices.

What is really striking about this piece is the restraint with which the decorators designed it. The bold back outlines on the figural berry and leaf handle draw the eye, but it is the touch of mint green under the black handle which pops. Noritake Art Deco pieces with figural elements have been popular for a long time. This is a great example of this technique.

It is signed on the back with the standard Green Wreath Noritake mark. Add it to your Noritake Art Deco collection today.  This large Noritake Nippon cake plate measures 9 1/2 inches across from the tip of the handle to the other handle. It is a standard Noritake shape, but it is unusual to see it NOT signed with the post-1921 Noritake mark but with lesser known green cherry mark. I would place this piece in the 1925-1930 time period as it is an interesting mix of Victorian flowers with the scarce pearl luster. The most interesting part of the decoration is on the rim where the use of negative space creates designs in white which is really the underglaze. Notice the way the flowers start in the blue luster rim and continue onto the pearl luster center ground.

It is very practical and functional piece of china and is ready for your holiday table. The three floral cartouches are all hand-painted.

It is in fair vintage shape. One can see a good amount of wear on the center ground when one tips the plate to the light. No chips or cracks though. Add it to your Nippon or Noritake collection today.
