Antique Tiles

Manufacturer: American tile company
This antique tile has a rarely found scene - two gentlemen are playing backgammon at a table, while a mother and baby stand watching the game and a dog is lying at their feet. Done in a typical Victorian green majolica glaze - this measures 4 1/2 inches square. Circa 1890. This could easily have been made by the J & J G Low Art Tile Company. If not by them, then made by one of the other highly recognized tile manufacturers of the late 19th century. There is the modeler's cipher in the lower right corner - either -WR- or -VR-. In excellent condition. (#T1505)
