Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: mid 1900's
Condition: Very Good
Manufacturer: Russell Jennings Mfg. Co. Chester Conn. U.S.A.
This is a rarely seen larger size auger bit set of extension lip spur auger bits with the tapered ends to fit the antique style hand brace chucks. This set includes a total of 14 auger bits, one size is missing, which is the 13/16" size.  The set otherwise includes one auger in each 1/16" size from 4 to 20/16ths.  The set was made by and individually marked "RUSSELL JENNINGS" although a few of the new old stock augers included are also marked STANLEY (who purchased Russell Jennings in the 1940's). Some of these are also marked Russell "RUSSELL JENNINGS NO.100" then the size in 16ths under that, on the shank of each. All bits are in very good useable condition to new condition, no rust, sharp, all have fine screw lead threads, all in great shape.  We note that the 9 & 11/16ths sizes are both older versions and have slightly smaller spurs on them, but still sharp and useful.  The storage roll is made of all cotton lining and cotton duck exterior material, with about 15 pockets or compartments in the roll and a flat to cover over the auger bits for transporting them, as well as a tie string to hold the roll closed. The tool roll is in new condition.  This set has seen little or no use, 97% like new condition overall! A very well known quality tool maker, and a nice example of their product! Would make a very nice gift item for a woodworker! We also carry a nice selection of quality braces and breast drills to go with this set!
