Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: Mid-1900's
Condition: Good++
Manufacturer: Stanley New Britain Conn. U.S.A.
This is a very nice clean Stanley No. 4 smooth plane from the 40's era or a type 17, WWII war production. This type has the hardwood handles (with the dark rosewood stain) that are in nice condition, with some clear finish wear, but the stain is even and intact for the most part.  Has very solid and clean tote and knob, with about 90% of the original finish intact. This plane is in very condition overall with about 95% of the original black Japanning, and about 90% of the nickel plating on the cap cover intact (about 90% of the orange paint on the cap cover intact). The bare metal surfaces are clean, a few very minor stains, very little wear on the metal surfaces, the bottom is smooth and flat, no rust. The blade is marked "STANLEY NEW BRITAIN U.S.A." with the V-shaped logo (an older type cutter), the body is marked "BAILEY NO. 4 MADE IN U.S.A.". The cutter is about 40% intact, sharp and ready to use. This is a very nice vintage Stanley plane in very good, ready to use condition! Often a favorite model for daily use, as it has the heavy duty (thicker) side wall stock on the main body! One of the nicest we have seen in the war production type!
