Manufacturer: Olympia Music Boxes
Nifty antique find, a metal music box disc phonograph record which was used with Victorian music boxes made by The Olympia company. This is labelled on the front side with "The Olympia", then the song/piece designation, "4414 He Cert'ny Was Good To Me. Song. Sloane".

While this certainly could be played on an Olympia music box if you have one, we also think it would be an impressive piece just to hang on the wall given it's decoration, how it looks, and what it is. This is an all metal round record with impressed holes on the top side throughout the center section which are pressed through to metal tab pieces which slightly jut out on the bottom side (we believe these metal tabs are what pushed down on metal keys on the music box creating the music/song as the disc rotated on the box). There is a hole in the very center, with 4 surrounding smaller holes and then holes around the outer edge of the disc (we believe this is how the disc fit onto poles or sprockets on the music box to stay in place when rotating).

But it is the graphic decoration on the top side which really caught our eye. While the metal disc is an overall dark gray in color, a graphic has been printed on the top side in black showing a pretty girl in a Victorian/early 1900's style dress, sitting with a musical instrument in her lap (perhaps a mandolin?), with some sheet music on the ground to her side and a winged angel or cherub flying above her and accompanying her bowing a violin. There is also an ornate swirl graphic coming downwards from The Olympia name.

Antique metal round disc phonograph record is large, with an outside diameter of about 15.75 inches. While in wonderful vintage overall condition, and largely flat, we do note some slight bending or waving along the outer edge, largely along the top edge. This looks to us like it would still play well, but we do not have a Victorian music box on which to test it, so we can not guarantee that it still plays as it originally did. There are no cracks, chips, breaks or other major damage that we see. There are some whiteish spots or discoloration spots on the top side, but they do not take away from the great look and to us add proof of age.

A neat antique find which could make an interesting gift for a music lover or to hang on the wall of a music room or family room.

Please note for shipping: This old metal disc weighs about 3/4 of a pound unpacked. Due to the cardboard we will need to use to encase this for shipping flat, along with the size, this will need to ship within the U.S. via U.S.P.S. Priority Mail. Please choose that option when entering the order.
