Tohono O'odham Oval Tray Basket with handles Scarce to Find.

This Tohono O'odham Split Stitch Basket was handwoven by Native American, Tohono O'Odham weaver. These baskets are distinctive and feature nod to ancestors weaving with an added contemporary styling. Hand coiled and hand woven with sun dried yucca and devils claw wraps the beargrass. This is in excellent condition with minor signs of use. Superb coloring and patina to this Native American hand woven tray. Circa 1930 to 1950's. Made in United States with fantastic Style Tribal Design.

Early Tohono O'odham Indian Baskets were primarily utilitarian and used to carry water, firewood, prepare food and store items. Tohono O'odham Indian baskets are handmade using Native Plants such as Yucca, Beargrass,and Devils Claw. These Native American weavers rely on the natural colors of the desert plants.
