Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: Late 1800's
Condition: Good++
Manufacturer: Utica Tools Utica N.Y. U.S.A.
This is a nice clean 10" fence pliers/wire cutters/wire spretcher/wire splicer/staple puller/hammer, marked by the maker name and patent date, but both are difficult to read due to uneven stamp strikes. The logo can be seen a bit better, it is the three diamond type, and the UTICA lettering is within each of those three diamonds. It is very rare to see this model in any size in this good of condition, with the original patent date on them!  There appears to be two patent dates, but I can only read part of the later one which I think read "SEPT.3.189?" stamped near the pivot pin/joint. The steel is clean, no rust, no damage that will effect designed use of these pliers, but some dings and small spots of pitting noted on the outside finish. The pivot joint is snug, not sloppy, good shape. This model has two places for wire cutter, a place behing the pivot joint with serated jaws for grasping wire/nails/small pipe or rod, and the front of the jaws for pulling and twisting wire. All of the cutter and wire handling features are in good++ condition with very little wear on them. A nice quality tool by a well known and collectible tool maker!
