Antique birdcage hand crafted steamboat, late 1890 to the Edwardian age.
Exceptional piece of Americana, a real rarity.
Swing out feeder, water ports gangway stair cases, hawser and gun ports, this pet palace steam boat features its own life boats hanging from davits.
Well designed anchors in seductive light blue on chain to secure them.
The masts feature two tiny glass balls atop, one ruby and one clear.
Wooden cleats and life preservers add the perfect finishing touches.
Hand painted pennant and extensive riggings are just a small example of the excruciating detail this ancient artisan devoted to housing his canary or finch.

The age of steam, though popularized by Fulton in 1809, actually dates back into the 1700s when the steam pump was used to empty coal mines of dangerous rising water. The Side and stern wheel paddle boats of the mid Victorian period, known on the Mississippi, though used through out the east and west coast for maritime transport, latter morphed into the single screw naval Dreadnaught Steamship.

Likely crafted just after the Spanish American war to pay homage and remember the Battleship Maine.
These large ships were designed, to install fear and respect around the worlds ports of call with gun boat diplomacy.
Bold statements of imperialism, these vehicles, used by British such as HMS Bellerophon, German Kaiser, latter the Bismarck and the United States, San Diego. The ship of the line, they were perfect for channeling national pride and expansion. Almost a dozen ten to sixteen inch guns, drove the point home very quickly, submit, resistance is futile.
This, no doubt, is what has inspired this incredible bird cage.
