Copperton Lane Antiques & Collectibles

Circa: 1880
Country of Origin: US
Manufacturer: Victorian Era Production
This antique steel coal box or bin (also called a coal hod or scuttle) dates to the Victorian era. It has a flat black finish with ornate bronze hinges, top handle, and door pull. A wide handle at the back generally held a shovel when not in use. It was used for storing coal, firewood, or kindling near the fireplace or stove.

The bin measures about 17" long from front to back, plus another 2 inches for the extended back handle. It's 10-3/4" wide by 14-3/4" high to the upper handle. The left end cap to the upper bronze handle has a crack. I've left it alone, the buyer can decide whether to repair by welding or gluing. No other issues other than normal wear inside.
