Nifty vintage all wood darner or wood sock darning egg in a smaller size than we usually see, with a light cream painted color as made. Measures about 4 1/4 inches long and about 1 1/2 inches greatest width/depth. This collectible sewing piece weighs about 1.2 ounces unpacked.

We don't know what type of wood this antique sock darner is made of. It was made in two pieces, one for the nicely turned handle and one for the darner egg or rounded end (the two pieces are firmly attached to each other ).

We have shown 8 images, most are shot with the camera light as those images are clearer and better show the detail. However we have also included one without the camera light which can help with seeing condition and color of this piece. The camera light lightens the cream color due to reflection, with the non-light shot darkening the color, in person the color is slightly darker than the images using the camera light. The camera light also causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Terrific vintage used condition with no major flaws -- no large chips, cracks, pieces missing -- but lots of surface wear/use wear evident as would be expected with a used older piece. There is lots of wear on the large rounded end from needle use, showing as dots and lines through the paint to the wood beneath. There is other surface wear throughout the piece on the handle, egg sides and handle tip end via many small use scratches, rubbed/scraped/scarred spots, tiny surface nicks (not large chips), etc. There is a small hole at the tip end of the handle so perhaps someone once had a screw/ring attached here for hanging, we don't know. Regardless, there is nothing here to worry about, all this adds to the believeability of the age and use of this old piece.

A nice addition to any collection of sock darners, vintage sewing items or sewing collectibles, or one of great old wooden pieces or kitchen and household collectibles in general.
