Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: Early-late 1800's
Condition: Good++
Manufacturer: not marked
This is a very nice, antique hand made, hand forged wing divider (compass) for metal/wood working layout work. Most likely made in the early-mid 1800's, it may be older than that. It is in good working condition, with no rust, good working thread screw to hold the setting in position, and good sharp points. The majority of the surfaces are a sort of pitted texture, may have been rusty at one time, but not rusty now.  It can lay out a 24" circle, no problem, it measures 11" long overall. The pivot joint is snug, but not too tight, and is in great shape, still plenty snug at the joint, so you can still use this antique or display it. The thumb screw is unique with a heart shape in the thumb area, used to tighten the setting on the wing section appear to be newer, otherwise an all original hand made, primitive tool!
A nice primitive metal working layout tool!
