"The Dead Man's Penny" as this was called - the bronze commemorative plaque of a soldier's death sent to his family, World War One period. The medallion is for George William Waters. (There was a soldier of this name from the South Island, New Zealand, killed in 1918).
Large plaque, measuring 12 cm diameter, designed by Edward Carter Preston. This one is mounted in a very nice oak shield, with a chip-carved background and the oak leaves of Victory carved underneath and at the top points. Total shield measurement is 38 cm by 27 cm. It is in excellent condition.
