Circa: Circa 1952 Condition: Very Good
THIS was where my family went for special family occasions in the 1950s! I’d never seen the menu as an adult … but I never forgot some of these meals!
Restaurant Name: Lloyd’s Restaurant
Location: Highway 30 West, Marshalltown IA Date stated: Circa 1952
Artwork: Drawing of the restaurant building with restaurant name and location printed on front of heavy stock folder. Back cover features a full-page letter from owners Lloyd and Hazel Barlow about the history of their business and its half century of hospitality. This new building, they note, was created in 1946.
Size: 9.75 by 12.5 inches folded, opens to 19.5 by 12.5 inches. Description: Menu has two parts: (1) printed section of A La Carte Steaks, Fish and Seafoods with the note that ‘our fish and sea foods come to us direct,’ Sandwiches Specials and Salad Bowls. (2) Mimeographed sheet attached at corners through slits in back cover with daily dinner specials.
Features and Specials: Top Sirloin Steak, $3.25; Two Grilled Choice Lamb Chops, $2.50. Roast Prime Rib of Choice Iowa Beef, $2.25; Lloyd’s Farm Fried Half Chicken, $2.00; Choice Filet of Wall-Eye Pike from Northern Lakes, $1.90. Beef Pot Pie Encasserole, $1.65. Fresh Rhubarb Pie (and several other flavors) with whipped cream was among the pies, cakes and rolls baked fresh every morning and afternoon ‘in our own bake shop’! Clipped to the front of the menu is a small note that a dinner featuring Utah Individual Mountain Trout ‘delivered by United Airlines’ was available on this day for $2.50!
Condition: The menu is in Very Good condition with some signs of normal use. There are no tears, stains or pencil marks. There is some edge and corner wear.
