Circa: 1945 Condition: Very Good Type: Hardbound Publisher: The Viking Press Author: Marian and Nino Tracy Edition: 1 Pages: 154 ISBN: PREDATES ISBN
Another great cookbook published during the World War II era, Casserole Cookery: One-Dish Meals for the Busy Gourmet by Marian and Nino Tracy offers special tips for those who were facing the uncomfortable situations caused by the rationing of many food items. The authors provided several pages of 'Canned and Frozen foods and their approximate fresh equivalents', as well as notes on how cooks could readjust their ideas about food, depending upon what was available.
The cookbook is unique in that all recipes are confined to one page -- what to cook, how to make it, how long it takes and how many it serves. Directions are exact, simple to follow. The washable cover book is designed to stand open on the counter while your hands are busy with the preparation. The promise is that Casserole Cooking is more flavorsome, keeps food hot, saves tedious pot-washing and decorates the table with the pot you cook in.
The 5¾ x 8½-inch book is 154 pages, a spiral bound hardcover, with 150 recipes! It was published in its first printing in 1941, with this 6th printing in 1945 by The Viking Press, New York. Illustrations are by Julian Brazelton. The book is in Very Good condition with no serious defects inside or out. The covers show light wear to corners and edges. A previous owner utilized two early pages to write notes about her experience with several recipes. It's just as useful now -- in a different age of cooking -- as it was in the 1940s!
