Circa: 1955 Condition: Very Good Type: Magazine format; stapled Publisher: Bishop Cafeterias Author: Edna L. Wilson, Editor Pages: 24
There were once 38 Bishop’s locations throughout the Midwest, with the first opened by Benjamin Franklin Bishop in Waterloo, IA in 1920. It seems the popular chain failed to adapt with the times, blaming the eventual going-out-of-business on 'people not eating out anymore.' The last of the Bishop’s closed in 2012. Yet in its heyday, the Bishop Buffet and Cafeteria System was a hot-spot for anyone wanting a good meal at affordable prices.
This is the December, 1955 issue of The Bishop Booster, featuring news about the company's business affairs, personnel, employee recognition, customer evaluations and more. As usual, full pages of 'News and Gossip' from each restaurant were included, as were several pages of humor and a group of employees responding to a question posed by the magazine's 'Inquiring Reporter' each month. Black/white photos showed dinner parties enjoying their meals and employees relating to them. Quite a homey, family-oriented magazine!
Covers on this issue showed eight of the many specialty items being served. Twenty-four pages were included and it was edited by Edna L. Wilson. Condition is Very Good and it is without any apparent defects, inside or out! A great reminder of this fine chain.
