Description: The hotel had two air-conditioned restaurants, featuring ‘legendary’ broiled steaks and Maine lobsters. These three separate sheets, one for each of the last few days of June, 1957, detailed Luncheon and Dinner suggestions that changed each day. Appetizers, Luncheon Suggestions, Desserts, Sandwiches and Beverages were included on the luncheon menu; Broiled Lobsters, Other Dinner Suggestions and Garden Fresh Salads were added to the Dinner versions.
Features and Specials: Chicken Giblets Fricasse en Casserole ($1.40) and Prosperity Sandwich (Chicken on Toast, Creamed Mushrooms, Bacon AuGratin) for $1.60 highlighted Lunch. For dinner, the 1.5 pound Maine Lobster with Drawn Butter ($3.75), Broiled Swordfish ($2.50), and Potted Swiss Steak Jardinière with Noodles Polonaise ($2.50) and Breaded Pork Chop with Tomato Sauce and Spaghetti Italienne ($2.40) were among the favorites. Beverages included a choice of Darjeeling, Jasmine, Orange Pekoe or Japan Pinhead Gunpowder Tea.
Condition: The menus are in Very Good condition with few signs of use and no abuse. The luncheon page does have an area with yellowing over the luncheon suggestions and a previous owner wrote the hotel’s name and city at top corner. All were folded vertically and that fold, plus several other small creases remain. There are no tears or stains.
