6 Cut Glass Compote/sherbet Bowls American Brilliant
This is a lovely set of six American Brilliant cut glass compotes. Petite in size at 2 1/4 inches high, they measure 3 1/4 inches across the top and have a 2 1/4 inch diameter pedestal base. The edging is scalloped and saw-toothed with a body motif of arches, fans, stars and cross hatches. Each of the compote bowls is in very fine vintage condition with no cracks or chips, only some sharpness on the top edging and pedestal foot that occurred during the cutting process. We do note that four of the bowls appear darker in color than the other two. We know that lead was used to soften the glass so that it could be hand cut, and we believe that those four have a higher lead content than the other two. Although we can find no manufacturer's mark, the arches, fans, and star motif is one found on pieces produced by such companies as Bergen and Hoare. It has become increasingly more difficult to find an entire set such as these little treasures that date back to the early 1900's.
