Some small paper chips at bottom edge which do not affect the content. Bold and well written manuscript. Very fine, 1832 handwritten copy of the original 1823 plantation inventory of Eliza and Josiah Chambers. Desirable Louisiana slave related document. The Chambers plantation was located on Bayou Robert near the Red River. The plantation house was destroyed during the Red River Expedition in 1864 by Union forces. At the end of the war, Josiah Chambers was forced to sell half of his lands. The Shiloh Confederate battle report (our inventory # CD635) originated from this family's collection.

    Huge sale naming 31 Slaves! 9 x 15, in ink, with blue paper seal affixed at bottom right. The State of South Carolina Know all men by these presents, That I Alexander Fraser of Saint Bartholomews Parish, in the State aforesaid, Physician, for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen thousand dollars, to me in hand paid, at and before the sealing and delivery of these Presents, by James O'Hear and Emanuel Weitsell, (the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge) have bargained and sold, and by these Presents, doth bargain, sell and deliver to the said James O'Hear and Emanuel Weitsell, the following negro slaves, to wit, Will, Charmont, Joe, Billy, Caesar, Neptune, George, Prince, Isaac, Frank, London, Torrey, Sue, Hannah, Phillis, Auba, Lucy, Rose, Hagar, Affey, Eve, Peggy, Sally, Nelly, Charles, Edy, Jane, Indy, Sam, Ben, and Becky, together with the future issue and increase of the females. To have and to hold, the said negro slaves, Will, Charmont, Joe, Billy, Caesar, Neptune, George, Prince, Isaac, Frank, London. Torrey, Sue, Hannah, Phillis, Auba, Lucy, Rose, Hugar, Affey, Eve, Peggy, Sally, Nelly, Charles, Edy, Jane, Indy, Sam, Ben, and Becky, together with the future issue and increase of the females, unto the said James O'Hear and Emanuel Weitsell, their Executors, administrators and assigns: to them and their only proper use and behoof forever. And I the said Alexander Fraser, my Executors and administrators, the said bargained premises, unto the said James O'Hear and Emanuel Weitsell, their executors, administrators, and assigns, from and against all persons whomsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend as to their title, but not as to their saneness. In witness whereof, I the said Alexander Fraser have hereunto set my hand and seal, this thirtieth day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two, and in the seventy seventh year of the Sovereignty and Independence of the United States of America. There are some old tape stains to the reverse that show somewhat on the obverse of the document. Some archival tape repairs to the folds on the reverse. Extremely well written manuscript. A very desirable South Carolina slave bill of sale naming 31 slaves!

    Circa 1950 black African Golliwog style child doll or crib toy, made of soft vinyl plastic, 4 inches high when standing. She has lenticular flicker open/closed eyes and wears a fringed red skirt and blue plastic neck ring. A red ribbon is tied to the hanging ring at the top of her head. Her jointed arms and legs are poseable. She is marked Made in Hong Kong on the back and is in very good condition other than some paint wear to the yellow eyebrows and red mouth.

    6 1/2 x 5, in ink. Receipt for payment of $20.00 for five separate visits to the negro man Nero. Each entry has the date of the visit in 1846 with the charge. Signed at the bottom, Recvd. payment, R.H. Brodnan. This receipt originated from a collection from Warren County, Mississippi. Very fine.

    Vintage Black Americana Outhouse Figurines
    Set of Two Vintage Black Americana Bisque Outhouse Figurines. These were made in Japan. The larger one has a black child in striped shorts and a red hat peeking into the outhouse to find it is already occupied. The smaller figurine has a little black child in white shorts peeking in finding someone inside. Each figurine is in very good condition with some slight paint loss, mostly the black paint. In the pictures there seems to be more damage to the paint than actually is. It is hard to take pictures of black items to get them to come out good. Thanks for looking.     1842 Georgia Writ To Levy Property Including Slaves
    2 pages, 7 1/2 x 9 1/4, in ink. I have this day levied the within fi fa on the following property to wit; four hundred and fifty acres of pine land more or less lying and being in the county of Richmond, and State of Georgia, on both sides of Butler's Creek, and bounded by lands of A.N. Vendery on the South, on the East by lands formerly Hales and owned at this time by James T. Barton, on the West by lands of said A.N. Vendery, and North by lands Mouty and Harper, together with the improvements thereon. Also one hundred and fifty two acres pine land more or less situated, lying and being in the county and state as aforesaid, and bounded by lands of Robert Morris, James T. Barton, and others, and known as a part of the Campbell tract. Also the following Slaves to wit; Phil, aged about forty eight or fifty years- also one carry log, three wagons, four mules, one horse, one sulky, one cow and calf, and a lot of of farming utensils consisting of ploughs, spades, shovels, a negro woman aged about fifty years, one set blacksmith tools, one lot wagon and harness, one carpet, one rg, one set shovel and tongs, one feeder, one walnut dining table, twelve chairs, one carry log, four axes, one sofa, levied on as the property of the defendant, Martin Wilcox. May 6th, 1842 William V. Ker, Deputy Sheriff, R.[ichomd] C.[ounty] Light age toning and wear, and a couple of small archival tape repairs. Remnants of old wax seal at top of the document. Very fine 1842 Georgia writ listing slaves among the levied property. Footnote : Fieri Facias, or fi fa as it is usually abbreviated, is a writ of execution after a judgement is obtained in a legal action for debt or damages. In the 1800's it was usually executed by a sheriff who had the authority to sell goods and property to make good the amount of the judgement against the defendant.

Dunlap all my wright, title & interest to land and negroes, farming utensils, stock and everything pertaining, in Prairie County, Arkansas, bought from & given to us jointly by T.P. Evans in the year 1856, whose joint bond we hold for title to land & negroes upon the payment of the purchase money, this instrument is to show that said R.E. Dunlap has purchased Russell Evans entire interest in land, negroes, stock & every kind of property belonging to said promisory including 80 acres of land...in consideration for above property is twenty one thousand five hundred dollars. The Bureau of Freedmen and Refugees, also known as the Freedmen's Bureau, was established by Congress, on March 3, 1865, and its principal function was to aid freed former slaves in the South. It operated as part of the U.S. War Department, and was commanded by General Oliver O. Howard.

    Black Americana Effanbee appears Hand made Black American Doll. Gently used. I sold the same in mint condition, with the Effanbee paper tag tall, less than a pound. Her face has some stiffness to it, eyes and mouth are painted. The lips are missing a little paint. The hair is thin from being gently loved . The back is full, the very top and the left side show thinness. Her arms and legs are stitched in a velvety fabric. Her dress is of cotton and faded with age. The ash tray is a souvenir from Fredericksburg, Va. The ash tray measures 3 in dia. and overall length of 4 1/4 in.
