Manufacturer: Cast Iron Architectural Items
Impressive vintage cast iron or cast metal architectural piece consisting of curves, curls, swirls and/or curlicues. A magnet sticks to this so clearly made of cast metal, but we think this is cast iron given rusting present (we are not experts here).
A heavy piece, weighing 5 pounds unpacked. Measures 18 3/4 inches greatest length, 9 1/2 inches greatest height, with a consistent depth to the metal bars used of about 1/2 inch. This may have been cast of two pieces of metal that were then held/put together with a metal bracket noticeable in one spot (please see image #9) and likely soldering in another. This may have at one time had hanging brackets attached in two spots along one edge, but these are no longer present with just odd pieces of metal remaining (please see image #12 of one of these spots). Could still be hung on wall or perhaps suspended in air via addition of your own hanging brackets, chains, etc. (no hanging materials included, just the metal piece itself as is/as found).
This came out of a home and is minimally a vintage piece, perhaps antique, we don't know. No manufacturer or country of origin marking present. We do not know how this was originally meant to be used but are guessing it was designed as a decor focal piece.
We've provided 8 images. The first four images show two views of the metal piece from each side, trying to show with curlicues extending both upward and downward to provide an idea of the differing ways this could be displayed. The remains of the original hanging brackets would have this hanging with the swirls facing downward. Since the white background of the first four images can cause the camera light to bland out some details, we've included two images shot on some gold carpeting (one of each side), which better helps to show the rusting present. The remaining two images are close-ups for better understanding the depth and some details. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Overall very nice, very usable condition, but with evidence of age & wear. From a distance this appears overall black in color, but closer you see the rusting which covers a good bit of this piece (much more visible on one side than the other). There are no pieces missing (other than the hanging brackets as stated prior) or large cracks or large chips. There are some small/tiny chips, but nothing major or to worry about at all or noticeable on display. Likely has minor edge wear, general age/use wear, a few paint spatter spots, general surface wear, etc.
Definitely would be an attention getter in any room setting. Perhaps could also be used outdoors, either attached to a home or wall or within a garden setting. |
