Manufacturer: Mason's Dairy Farm
Very nice vintage collectible quart size glass milk bottle. Clear glass in square shape with orange lettering and graphic triangular line design on two opposing sizes with other two sides clear glass. We'd call this orange lettering enamel lettering, but have seen some refer to this as Pyroglazed lettering. Very vivid and strong, stating just "Mason's" with no indicated location for the dairy or dairy farm given. From some internet research, we've seen this same name and design used for dairies in Maryland (MD) and West Virginia (WV) but we can't tell you for certain the location of the milk production dairy that used this bottle. This bottle came out of a home in Pennsylvania (PA), but we don't know where or how the former owners obtained it.
Along the base on each of the four sides are raised words which state Liquid, One Quart, Sealed 152 NU, and 2 Reg.. (for Registered, we believe). On the underside base there is a raised graphic, diamond shaped chain link type design around the base near the edge, with the raised numbers 69 and H2247. We believe the 69 might indicate the year this bottle was made, 1969, but don't know that for certain. Similar bottles with this design have been dated to Mid Century, in the 1950s and 1960s, and we believe that this bottle is of similar age, but we are not collectable milk bottle experts.
Stands about 8 5/8 inches tall, with a width/depth to each side of about 3 1/4 inches. The neck and top opening of the bottle suggest this is the type that had a round flat paperboard milk bottle cap/piece inserted into the top for closure, but we don't have the original milk bottle cap/closure. Weighs almost 18 ounces unpacked and will be shipped in a box for safety.
To best show this vintage milk bottle and condition, we shot most of the images using the camera light, which both creates white "hot spot" reflections and alters the coloring of the orange lettering/design in the images, making the orange appear much lighter in color than what you will see in person. This is a medium, rich orange color, not what we would call a dark or light color but in the medium of the range. There are several images shot in closeup with the bottle lying down. These were shot without the camera light, so while they may appear a bit fuzzier, they provide a pretty true indication of the orange color you will see in person (depending, of course, on what your own lighting conditions are). Please view all the images closely, examining with the zoom feature.
Very nice, clean, vintage used condition with appropriate wear to support age/use but not bad at all. No chips, cracks, crazing. Orange enamel name lettering and art graphic design 90% still there overall (name/design appears on two opposite sides of square bottle, one side almost all there with other showing some wear to graphic design but name great, all very readable). Bottle itself largely very clear with a number of tiny as made pin dots/bubbles in the glass, and evidence of use/wear but not bad. Some scars, scraping, scratches (some long), interior white circular haze near neck, a dark spot on the last "s" in Mason's on each side where this is shown, other usual age/use/bottling wear as expected and supportive of an older, used and reused bottle. Raised lettering at base on all four sides and raised graphics/numbers on underside base all in great shape and clearly visible.
Please note that we are listing a number of other milk bottles. Should you be interested in more than one, please e-mail us prior to placing the order. The system has been set up to calculate shipping costs for just one listing/bottle and will not provide you with the savings you would receive by packing more than one bottle in the same box. We would be pleased to calculate that for you. |
