Manufacturer: Man-O-War Remedy Company of Lima, Pennsylvania
Nifty vintage advertising tin for an animal product or veterinary medicine product. Old collectible tin for a product for use on dairy farms, Thoroughbred Udder-Balm for use with cows. Manufactured for Man-O-War Remedy Company of Lina, Pennsylvania (PA, Penn., Penna.).

We actually have three of these tins, sold separately. Price shown is for one tin. All were purchased from same individual at same time. They are identical, but differ in condition slightly. The images shown are a sampling of one tin.

Small square tin which states it once held 9 ounces of product, these tins are currently empty and clean inside (the lids can be removed, they are tight on the tins but can be taken off with a bit of effort). Measures about 2 15/16 inches wide each side and about 2 1/2 inches in height. Overall deep yellow color, we'd call this an amber or mustard color, with black printing. Two opposing sides of the tin show the product and manufacturer name along with a graphic of a cow head and the printed 60 cent prince. The other two opposing sides show "Contents 9 ounces" along with Directions for use. This product was meant to help reduce cracked or sore teats for the cow after milking.

There is no date showing when this was made on this old tin. However, we believe the Man-O-War Remedy Co. was named after one of the most famous horses of all time, Man-O-War, who won both the 1920 Preakness and Belmont Stakes among his many victories. Given this and the general look of this tin, we would guess this dates to the 1920s-1940s period, but don't know for certain. A magnet does stick to this piece. This is an original tin, not a reproduction.

We've provided 8 images to show differing sides/angles. The camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the the smooth metal surfaces, so some images were shot without the light to provide a truer representation. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Very nice vintage condition but all of these do show age and use wear, varying by tin, so these are not new and mint looking, which is to be expected and part of their charm. Wear includes tarnishing along the bottom edge, age spotting over most of the outer lids and throughout the outer body sides (a lighter type spotting but still very there, the camera lighting blands this out somewhat in the images), scratches and scratch dots/spots (not bad, some of these scratch through the outer amber coloring to show the silver of the tin underneath, one tin has two line scratches on one Directions side), use/rubbed wear on the sides (some of this in the words of the Directions side), a few small dents (no large dents, one tin has a small dent in a lid corner, while another has several small dents on the sides including one near the nose of the cow on one side), one tin has a dirt spot on the lid, etc. These tins have a general slightly dirty/worn appearance but really not bad. On the base bodies once the lid is removed there is some scratching/rubbed to silver wear due to the tightness of the lid. The insides shows some tarnishing and corrosion as do the insides of the lid. There is also tarnishing on the underside base of the body piece (one tin much more tarnished underneath than the others). Again, all this varies by tin, however, we feel this wear is to be expected for used tins and adds to the believability of age and is common for used tins.

A neat addition to any collectible advertising tin grouping or one related to animal tins in particular. Would also be an interesting addition to a collection related to cows or dairy farming, or a fun gift for a veterinarian.
