Manufacturer: Bakelite Buttons
Interesting group of 10 vintage bakelite buttons, all in the red color, which came out of homes (not all from the same home). There is a slight variation to the red coloring but they are very similar in color. As you will see in the images, there are 5 different types of buttons here. The largest is an octagon or stop sign shaped button measuring about 1 3/8 inches. This one has an intricate carved geometric design at its center. Next largest are three matching round buttons which each have a carved raised 2 line triangular décor, measuring about 3/4 inch in diameter. Then there are four matching round buttons which each have a two circle raised design, measuring about 11/16 inch in diameter. There is one round button which is a smooth half ball shape with an angular carved center on one side (it is a totally smooth half ball shape on the other side), that ends in a "V" shape at one edge, measuring about 1/2 inch in diameter. The final item was found among a group of buttons but we aren't sure if this is a button itself or would have been the backside of a button. It is a stud type button with two holes, one on either side of the stud (all the other buttons have two holes at their center for sewing). We don't see any evidence that this was ever attached to something else so perhaps it is a stud type button, we just aren't sure. This also is round and is the smallest button, measuring about 7/16 inch in diameter.

We've provided 8 images to show in groups and singly, top and backsides, and one image with a dime and a quarter for size comparison. The camera lighting creates white "hot spots" on the smooth and raised surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely. All 10 buttons were tested with Simichrome Polish and shown to be bakelite.

Wonderful overall vintage condition with no chips, cracks or pieces missing. These do show some expected age/use/storage wear to varying degrees, including some scratch lines, rubbed spots, other spots, other wear spots, etc., as expected with bakelite. One of the 3 round buttons with the triangular raised design shows topside rubbed wear on two of the raised triangle lines (next to each other) and appears to have significant crazing lines within the button when this is held up against a bright light (we don't see this on the other buttons). But a neat grouping to add to any bakelite collection.

We have other buttons listed for sale. Should you be interested in more than one, please contact us prior to inputting the order. The system has been set up to calculate shipping for each individual listing and will not provide you with the savings you would get by shipping more than one listing in the same package. We would be pleased to provide that for you.
