Description
A truly unique, cross-collectible find straight from a private estate. This is an authentic, late-Victorian (circa 1880s–1890s) glass perfume sample vial from the renowned Frederick Stearns & Co. of Detroit, Michigan.
While originally manufactured to hold Stearns' signature "White Rose" floral extract, this fragile glass vial was beautifully repurposed over a century ago. It now serves as a tiny, miniature time capsule housing a pristine collection of antique micro sea shells (marine gastropod/sea snail specimens).
During the Victorian era, collecting natural wonders for "Cabinets of Curiosities" was an incredibly popular pastime, and this piece perfectly captures that historical charm.
Condition Report
-Glass: Excellent vintage/antique condition. No chips, cracks, or flea bites. The glass remains clear.
-Label: Remarkably well-preserved for its age. The paper shows a beautiful, natural amber patina. It is entirely legible, with the "Stearns", "White Rose", and "Detroit U.S.A." text completely intact. There is minor edge wear/lifting consistent with a 130+ year old paper label (please see photos).
-Contents: The tiny shells are free-floating inside the vial, completely intact, and boast a vibrant, naturally preserved yellow-cream hue. The original cork is securely nestled in the neck.
