We have a small quantity of original HEINTZELMAN’S PHARMACY, Phila., LIQUID RENNET, FOR CULINARY USE, labels to be offered here individually priced for the collector of Civil War vintage cooking and kitchen things, pharmaceuticals, or simply Civil War era personal things. (Such flavorings were a popular sutler item among troopers looking for a way to "spiffy" up every day camp culinary fair.) Heintzelman’s labels (see Civil War era Philadelphia directories) measure approximately 1 1/8" X 3 3/8" and offer recipes for use un curd or whey, cold custard and "devonshire juncate". Each remains in fine un-used condition for display as is or mounted on a period bottle. Civil War medical collectors and enthusiasts will be pleased to note that the Philadelphian, Heintzelman served as a Hospital Steward with the 72nd Penn. Volunteer Infantry from 8/10/1861 to 12/4/1862 then as Assistant Surgeon of the 42nd Mass. Volunteers until 8/20/1863 (see: Rush B.
