This is a nice clean antique 1.95" wide socket firmer chisel marked: ESSEX MFG. CO. The mark is on the flat steel near the socket.  This chisel is made with choice steel and steel treatment to produce a long lasting cutting edge.  The steel on this one is somewhat more polished than average, not rusty or damaged, some minor dings on the socket area since that steel is a softer steel.  The hardwood handle is in very good condition, has only minor wear.  A very nice medium duty firmer chisel! Essex Mfg. Co. is believed to be one of the U.S.A. manufactures for what was then Simmons Hardware. Co., which was a tool distributor.
