This is a nice clean, 19th century heavy duty mortise chisel. It's 1/2" wide x 11" long steel & overall is 15.5" long. It's in very nice condition with an old maker's mark "MERRILL & CO." known to be in business in the 1850's in Hinsdale NH. USA. Other than a few past owner's marks and some minor dings in scratches it's in like new condition. Nice newer hard maple handle with an iron cap ring. A very hard to find tool by this maker!
