Great Expectations Antiques

Circa: Early-late 1800's
Condition: Good+
Manufacturer: not marked
This is a very nice, antique hand made, hand forged wing divider (compass) for metal working layout work. Most likely made in the early-mid 1800's, it may be older than that. It is in good working condition, with no rust, good working thread screw to hold the setting in position, and good sharp points. It can lay out a 24" circle, no problem, it measures 11" long overall. The pivot joint is unique, with several layers of joint contacts, 3 on one leg, two on the mate leg, give a nice snug joint movement, but not too tight, and is in great shape, still plenty snug at the joint, so you can still use this antique or display it. The thumb screw used to tight the setting on the wing section appear to be newer, otherwise an all original hand made, primitive tool!
A nice primitive metal working layout tool!
