This is a very good, antique hand made, hand forged wing divider (compass) for metal working layout work. Most likely made in the early-mid 1800's, it may be older than that. It is in good working condition, with no rust, good working thread screw to hold the setting in position, and good points. One leg is about .2" longer than the other, but it is generally not notices when laying out a large circle as this one is capable of. It can lay out a 30" circle, no problem. The pivot joint is in good shape, still plenty snug, so you can still use this antique or display it. A nice primitive metal working layout tool!
